The out line of “Inherit the Earth”
"Inherit the Earth" (1992) is contained in “Traces” that is a collection written by British sci-fi author Stephen Baxter.
Luke is a creature that has many legs and tentacles. There is nearing his end. He decides to go on a pilgrimage. Bucause, he wants to confirm the existenc of God he believes and human preached Christianity to their ancestor five bilion years ago.
I’ll change the person (?) Luke meets at the holy place to God.
The God says
Human’s sin was very great. So that I desrroied them like Sodom, though I allowed some people to escape to safety like Lot. After that, I stopted to keep an eye on them. In addition, from the beginning, I made human to imitate us. Rightly, I have not been oblivious to you.
His remakers bitterly disappointed Luke.
I’ve been a good Catholic all my life…
Their conversation continues…
And finally, the God heals Luke’s mortal illness and promises that He is keeping an eye on the creature Luke belong to.

Sounds interesting, Kimiko. Couold you perhaps summarise the original a little more to help your readers understand better who your fanfic develops/changes the original. Are you saying that the alien Luke will become a human?? Will it still be science fiction, or is it philosophical? Are they (the original and your version) best described as popular genres? What genre/s?
If you can post some more text I'll be able to give more comment. Looking forward to it...
Are you saying that the alien Luke will become a human?
Now I do not think so.
Will it still be science fiction, or is it philosophical?
Although now my image is not philosophical, I think that it may not look science fiction… I though that this is fanfic, so, it is no problem to deviate form the genre...
Are they (the original and your version) best described as popular genres? What genre/s?
Of course I do not think that my choice is best described as popular genre. However, when I went to a bookshop, I could easily found this book, so I think this book is popular in NZ all its own. In addition, there are maniac fans of this book in Japan, although this book has not the Japanese version. I’d like to think this book and my story are described as popular genres even if my choice is the worst…
